FAQS
1 / How are your wigs unique?
Strands Luxe hair pieces are designed specifically for people with Frontal Fibrosing Scarring Alopecia or similar hair loss patterns. Unlike standard toppers that only cover the top of your head or crown, our pieces extend from ear to ear — covering the entire frontal hairline and sides, where you need it most. They’re undetectable and secure, giving you natural-looking coverage and confidence.
2 / If I'm out of state, can we work together?
Absolutely. If you're already working with a salon, I can partner with them to make sure your needs are met. If not, I can work directly with you via Zoom and handle everything remotely. You're not alone—no matter where you live.
3 / How do I measure my head?
I walk all clients through measuring either in person or over Zoom. Don’t worry—it’s simple, and I’ll show you exactly how to do it step by step.
4 / How do I care for my hair piece?
Caring for your hair piece is straightforward. I provide simple video tutorials to help you wash and maintain it. And if you ever need a refresher, I’m always here to help.
5 / Can I bill my insurance for my Strands Luxe hair piece?
Every insurance policy is different. This type of hair piece is considered a "cranial prosthesis", and the condition is called Frontal Fibrosing Scarring Alopecia. Contact your insurance company and ask if they cover cranial prostheses. If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.
6 / Can I send you pictures for a recommendation?
Yes, please! If I’m working with you directly (rather than through a salon), I encourage you to send clear photos. Email is best (jennifer@strandsluxe.com), and I’ll guide you from there.
7 / Can I play sports while wearing it?
Yes! Many clients wear their frontal pieces while playing pickleball, biking, running, and even riding motorcycles. Just avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine or saltwater, and wash it soon after if you do get it wet.
8 / Will it stay secure in the wind?
Yes—our attachment method is secure and undetectable. You can be confident wearing it on a windy day.
9 / Do you offer gray or white hair colors?
Yes! We offer human hair pieces in gray, white, and salt-and-pepper tones to match your natural look.
10 / What does hand-tied mean?
Hand-tied wigs are crafted using one of the most detailed and time-intensive techniques. Each strand of hair is carefully hand-knotted to the wig cap, resulting in a realistic, natural-looking finish. This construction allows the hair to move freely and be parted in any direction. A key advantage of hand-tied wigs is the absence of wefts, meaning you won’t have to worry about exposed tracks if the wind blows. When you touch the scalp area, it feels smooth and natural.
11 / Why use human hair?
Human hair wigs and toppers are highly valued for their versatility and natural look. They can be styled, colored, and treated just like your own hair. The highest-quality human hair is usually sourced from trusted suppliers who prioritize ethical and responsible practices.

What is Scarring Alopecia?
The American Hair Loss Association states that “scarring alopecia, also known as cicatricial alopecia, refers to a group of hair loss disorders that may affect up to 3 % of individuals experiencing hair loss. It occurs worldwide, impacting otherwise healthy men and women of all ages.”
Scarring alopecia can take many forms, but what they all have in common is the potential for permanent damage to the hair follicles. Over time, these follicles may be replaced by scar tissue, making it impossible for hair to grow back in those areas.

This type of hair loss often starts with small patches that may slowly get bigger. For some, the changes happen so gradually—and with little discomfort—that they barely notice at first. For others, the process can move more quickly and come with uncomfortable symptoms like itching, burning, or tenderness.

The way scarring alopecia looks on the scalp can vary. Unlike some other forms of hair loss, like alopecia areata, the edges of the bald patches may be uneven or irregular. The skin on the scalp might appear smooth and clear, or it could show redness, flaking, darker or lighter spots, or in some cases, blisters that leak fluid.

In scarring alopecia, the hair follicles can become damaged over time. Early on, inflammation—your body’s natural response to irritation—is often found around the hair follicles and may play a role in damaging them and causing scar tissue to form. But it’s important to know that not all cases are the same. Some people with scarring alopecia show very little inflammation when their scalp is examined, so doctors are still learning about the many ways this condition can appear.

As the condition progresses, the bald spots usually stop spreading, and uncomfortable symptoms like itching, burning, or tenderness often fade. At this stage, the areas of hair loss often no longer have healthy follicles to grow new hair. However, sometimes a few follicles survive around the edges of a bald patch, allowing for a little regrowth, though scar tissue may remain beneath the skin.

The good news is that there are beautiful, natural-looking solutions to help cover these areas and restore confidence. Products like Strands Luxe offer thoughtfully designed hairpieces and toppers that blend seamlessly with your natural hair, giving you coverage exactly where you need it most.
